Our College
Reunion – Day 2 (4/7/15)
Capture the Spring Fever – DC Cherry Blossoms!
We want to have
the “Sneak Preview” of DC Cherry blossoms before the madding crowd swarming the
Tidal Basin to see the annual parade next week.
Appreciation for the Beauty of Nature!
Fresh, Awesome, Magnificent and Beautiful!
It’s still a bit
chilly this time of the year in DC.
However, the cold won’t deter us!
See how much fun we
have! The picturesque view of the
Cherry Blossoms around the Tidal Basin is just phenomenal. You must be here in person to see it!
“Three Pretty
Women” breathed in the fresh spring air in the sea of pink. When can we have another moment like
this?
This is my
favorite picture shot. LJ’s as
well. The stunning array of cherry
trees lines up the water, in lightest white and pinks, dropping petals into the
waves while Shinyee and I slowly paddles the boat. I would like to have this moment frozen in time, forever!
Once
upon a time, this Tidal Basin was a swimming beach – It opened on August 24,
1918 with a water carnival fan fare. It was restricted to be "White-only." Then, the lawmakers had the property dismantled in September 1925.
Remember our
friend, Sam, from Bureau of Engraving and Printing? We asked him out for a lunch break with us. This "senior citizen with the walking
can", I teased him a lot, isn’t thinking about retiring any time soon. His office is just across the Tidal
Basin, quite convenient for goofing off. He would like to play host
to show us the Mandarin Oriental for a fancy lunch. But the back door into the Hotel was locked. Apparently, he knew where to have the
shortest cut for this “senior group with the walking cans.” We practically had the sidewalk all to
ourselves while Shinyee – the youngest of this senior group - guided the way. No one would dare to get too close to
us! It’s the Senior Citizens’
privilege! How nice!
The crispy cold
air was a lingering reminder of the bitterly cold winter just 30 days ago!
We were overwhelmed
by the beauty of the nature and totally soaked up the scent of the cherry
blossoms, speechless and in-awe!
We will be back to
see the full blooms in a few days.
Well worth it!
