Day 16 (Statue of Liberty, New York) Friday, October 19, 2012

Finally our last destination on this 17 daysvacation was “Statue of Liberty – The symbol of freedom and opportunity in US.”  Unfortunately, the rain was coming steadily and showed no sign of letting up.  Ben, walked up to the security alone, was told that the part of the road was under water.  It was impassable.   This was the only rainy day of our entire trip so far.  Was it a warning for the approaching of that monstrous storm Sandy?  Or was it my lack of researching for this last leg of our vacation?  We didn’t even know this iconic New York landmark has been closed for much of the past year due to the renovation project for improving visitors’ access and enhancing safety reasons. Sorry, Shinyee, Jia-Her, Lichuan and Shyhwui.  It wasn't meant to end our vacation this way.  We left in pelting rain only to have a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty far away, shrouded in thick clouds, as the uppermost of her crown slowly disappeared into the low-hanging fog.
