August 23, 2020 - Washington D.C. Taiwanese School, Advanced Mandarin Conversation Summer Class

·         We discussed the following issues:

• Today, Steve was not in the class so we did not discuss Lesson 75 - Tending the Garden  (今天，Steven (葛艾倫)不在課堂上，所以我們沒有討論第75課 - 整理庭院 - Jīntiān, shǐ dì fū (Steven) bùzài kètáng shàng, suǒyǐ wǒmen méiyǒu tǎolùn dì 75 kè - Zhěng lǐ tíng yuàn -)
• Raymond said, "my daughter's school will open on August 31, 2020.  They will have in-person classroom teaching."  (Raymond (書宗)說:我女兒的學校將於2020年8月31日開學。他們將進行面對面的課堂教學 - Raymond (書宗) shuō:Wǒ nǚ'ér de xuéxiào jiāng yú 2020 nián 8 yuè 31 rì kāixué. Tāmen jiāng jìnxíng miànduìmiàn de kètáng jiàoxué)
• Raymond said, "my daughter's school is private.  There are lots of open spaces offering good ventilation.  But they need to prepare one face mask for each day." Raymond (書宗) shuō:("Wǒ nǚ'ér de xuéxiào shì sīlì de. Tā hěn dà, yǒu hěnduō kāifàng kōngjiān, kěyǐ tígōng liánghǎo de tōngfēng. Dànshì tāmen měitiān xūyào zhǔnbèi yīgè kǒuzhào.") (Raymond (書宗)說:我女兒的學校是私立的。 它很大，有很多開放空間，可以提供良好的通風。 但是他們每天需要準備一個口罩. 

   
•  Teacher Wu said, ("I took my choir conductor to the emergency hospital, yesterday morning.  Suddenly, She could not walk.") 吳老師說：(“昨天早上，我帶我的合唱團指揮去急診醫院。突然，她不能走路了。”) Wú lǎoshī shuō:“Zuótiān zǎoshang, wǒ dài wǒ de héchàng tuán zhǐhuī qù jízhěn yīyuàn. Túrán, tā bùnéng zǒulùle.”)
• Teacher Wu said, "My daughter took the family to Sequioa National Forest to camp before her son's elementary school was open on August 19,2020." 吳老師說:(我的女兒在2020年8月19日兒子的小學上學之前，帶著家人到“Sequoia 國家森林”露營。) Wú lǎoshī shuō: (Wǒ de nǚ'ér zài 2020 nián 8 yuè 19 rì érzi de xiǎoxué shàngxué zhīqián, dàizhe jiārén dào “hóng shān guójiā sēnlín” lùyíng.) )"
  
•  Teacher Wu said, "They were the only family camping at Buck Rock campground.  They saw a bear in the wood." 吳老師說:"(他們是唯一在“Buck Rock”露營的家庭。 他們在森林裡看到一隻熊.") Wú lǎoshī shuō: ("Tāmen shì wéiyī zài “Buck Rock” lùyíng de jiātíng. Tāmen zài sēnlín lǐ kàn dào yī zhī xióng.")
• Raymond said, I only use air-condition after 6:00 p.m. (Raymond (書宗)說:我只在下午6點以後使用冷氣. Raymond (書宗) shuō:Wǒ zhǐ zài xiàwǔ 6 diǎn yǐhòu shǐyòng Lěng qì.)
  
• Raymond said, my two daughters are able to go school on August 31 because they are in private school) (我的兩個女兒可以在8月31日上學，因為他們在私立學校 (Wǒ de liǎng gè nǚ'ér nénggòu zài 8 yuè 31 rì qù xuéxiào shàngxué, yīnwèi tāmen zài sīlì xuéxiào)
• Raymond said, "but I am a little afraid because they do not have COVID-19 vaccine shots" (Raymond (書宗)說: 但我有點害怕，因為他們沒有注射COVID-19疫苗- Raymond (書宗) shuō:Dàn wǒ yǒudiǎn hàipà, yīnwèi tāmen méiyǒu zhù shè COVID-19 yìmiáo)
• Raymond asked, "Why did your teacher have issues with her foot?" (Raymond (書宗)問：“為什麼您的老師的腳有問題？”- Raymond (書宗) wèn:“Wèishéme nín de lǎoshī de jiǎo yǒu wèntí?”
• Teacher Wu said, "It's Osteoporosis issues." (吳老師說：“這是骨質疏鬆症的問題。”- Wú lǎoshī  shuō:“Zhè shì gǔzhí shūsōng zhèng de wèntí.”
• Teacher Wu said, ("The doctor prescribed the pain killer Prednisone to solve her problem.") (吳老師說：“醫生開了止痛藥 Prednisone 治療她的問題。”）Wú lǎoshī  shuō:“Yīshēng kāile zhǐtòng yào Prednisone  zhìliáo tā de wèntí.”

The next class will be at 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on September 13, 2020.  It's the official first day of school year for Washington D.C. Taiwanese School.

** There is no virtual on-line class on September 6, 2020 because it's Labor Day Weekend.

** We will have a new student, Joseph Faust, who is from the intermediate Mandarin Conversation Class.  He and I have had a successful Skype connection today to introduce ourselves.  Let's give him a warm welcome.    He has the text book prepared and is ready for the class.
