Our College
Reunion – Day 14 (4/19/15)
The Climax
of Our Trip – Spring Arrives at My Neighborhood
Every spring, the cherry trees in my community, Westleigh, would come
into full bloom almost overnight.
The spectacle lasts for about two weeks around the last week in April or
the first week in May. It’s all
very weather dependent, naturally.
The bitterly cold and snowy winter messed up my prediction of DC Cherry
Blossom to plan your travel time.
I was really worried that there weren’t anything for you folks to see
either in DC or in my community. It seems like only yesterday we were shivering
at the Tidal Basin to catch the last view of the Pink City on 4/10/2015.
The
following is the cherry blossom in full bloom at my community after you all
left on 4/20/2015. The pictures we took on 4/19/2015 – the
day before your departure were as pretty as these. We were lucky for the nice
weather then. It’s been a cold week since you all left. You folks brought the good
weather for us. Enjoy it! I will talk to you all in June when I can.
My Front Yard
With a good night sleep to shake the driving fatigue off – Ben, the
sole driver doesn’t even complain – we are ready to explore my community. I
popped the front door open, wow! it’s unbelievably warm. We have been cooped up inside the house
too long for the past dreary winter.
Thank you guys again! You
folks are from the warm-temperate semi-tropical zone, I can use some heat
around here.

Unusual
Friendship
This dogwood tree (N. Carolina’s state tree) is quite
unique with two different colors on one root. The imagery of three seniors under it truly symbolizes the unusual
journey of our lives – I will treasure this one!
The House of
Our Old Friends - Peter and Susan
We stopped by Peter’s old house where the new owner (a young couple)
moved in last April. Does scaling
down a retirement life style sound too familiar to you? Yes, Peter and Susan decided to
relocate to San Francisco to be near with both their children and three
grandkids – Susan prepared the feast as the welcome/farewell party in
October, 2012 for us before we left for northern part of East Coast to chase
the autumn splendor.
Four free-spirited and playful seniors relish the scenes from “The Dream of
the Red Chamber - 紅樓夢”.
The spring breeze blew off those incredibly beautiful cherry petals,
soft pink and delicate white all over the driveway. These four senior Lin DaiYu (林黛玉) had so much fun and got completely carried away. Reading too much novels may not be a
good thing.
Embrace the
Joys of Friendship
A bear hug from Hsia-Hwei – Good times are always sweet when they are
shared – I love it!

Watch Hsia-Hwei cutting the Chinese chives |
We’re savoring the spring sunshine in the backyard to pick the Chinese
chives that grow rampantly without my care for years. This garden area used to be Ben’s sanctuary after work
before the three deer become a part of my family. We called it MaMa, PaPa and Baby Deer. They nibbled off everything he planted
– eggplants, cucumbers, winter melons, watermelons, bitter melons, tomatoes and
his famous “yard long beans.”
The only thing spared is the Chinese chive. Believe it or not, I managed to sell quite a few bundles of
“Yard Long Beans” to the local Chinese grocery store. There were too much growing on the bamboo trellis that Ben
built. Well, those were the days!
