July 5, 2020 - Washington D.C. Taiwanese School, Advanced Mandarin Conversation Summer Class
· We discussed the following issues:
- Yesterday was July 4th. How did you all celebrate? Have you seen the fireworks? - Zuótiān shì 7 yuè 4 rì, nín zěnme qìngzhù? Nǐmen dōu kàndào Yān huǒ?)
- We did not watch fireworks, we lived a very simple life life everyday.
- I planted flowers. I used to plant sweet potato leaves and water spinach (Raymond (書宗)說:我種花。 Raymond (書宗) shuō:Wǒ yǐqián zhǒng Fānshǔ yè hé Kōngxīn cài)
- Planting water spinach in Maryland and California is illegal, because it clogs the underground water popes.
- I planted herbal plants, basil. The squirrels won't eat them.
- I planted tomato. But, the deer eat all my stems and leaves. (Lǎoshī sh uō: Wǒ zhǒng fānqié. Dànshì, lù chīle wǒ suǒyǒu de jīng hé yè.)
- Deer will not only eat tomato leaves, but also suck the juices once they are ripen. (Lù bù dàn huì chī fānqié yè, érqiě chéngshú hòu hái huì xīzhī)
- Why is Basil called "nine-floored pogada?"
- Because the leaves have so many layers - shape like a pogoda. (Yīnwèi yèzi yǒu hěnduō céng-xíngzhuàng xiàng bǎotǎ)
